Now on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum is the "Concept Ocean Drive" design study. This specially made, one-off creation maintains the tradition of large luxury convertibles at Mercedes-Benz. Not having to work to a design brief or production specifications left the designers free to develop one of the world’s most comfortable and elegant cabriolets.
The four-door convertible concept car is not just designed to inspire dreams and fantasies; it also serves a very practical purpose. Design studies are always a good opportunity for designers to play around with less familiar themes, to see things from new angles and to explore new ideas. They are also a way of stimulating a closer dialogue with car buyers and of trying out new ideas on the general public. This helps the designers at Mercedes-Benz to get a feel for future styling trends and to develop and implement new design idioms.
The design study was first unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in 2007. It will be on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum every day until 19 March (except Mondays) between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. in "The Fascination of Technology" section, which is free. This area of the museum houses a permanent exhibition about the current state of development at Mercedes-Benz and provides insights into the future of automotive engineering.
